Zephyr Mining Ltd has withdrawn its application to mine for gold and has indicated a lack of interest in moving forward with an application for mining in this environmentally sensitive Wilderness Study Area. The petition to Save Grape Creek has added greatly to the overall effort to defeat this attempt at mining in this pristine area. DRMS responded to the application by Zephyr with many concerns voiced here here in the petition but it is hats off to the local people of Canon City and the organizers of this effort. Our great thanks to Mike Gromowski, Arkansas Valley Conservation Coalition and savefremontcounty.org, Dr. Steven Emerman (Hydrologist) who provided great assistance analyzing Zephyr's horribly flawed application, Tim Cazier of DRMS who did himself and government services in general proud, our thanks to Eve Nagode, the Arkansas Valley Conservation Coalition (AVCC), and Mary Shinn, the journalist, who interviewed Mike Gromowski in early September and compiled multiple views on the mining industry and the Dawson Gold Mine, and most especially Jennifer Thurston, Environmental Activist who doggedly pursues many environmental issues keeping the world a little bit better for all of us. I want to express my appreciation for all of the 1,204 individuals who reached out and signed this petition, thereby expressing their opposition to the hard rock gold mine that was going to endanger this beautiful place, insult the sensibilities of many, and would have been an assault on the water supply of Canon City, CO which is an amazing place to visit, live and play in the Arkansas River. Don't ever forget that the small seemingly inconsequential actions of many make the wildly significant differences for all!
