The movement from many groups of animal lovers is currently a big wave hitting the Department of National Parks,Wildlife and Plant Conservation and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The campaigns are growing in its scope, from gorilla to elephants and chimpanzees, from wildlife to domestic pets. Regardless of the urgent agendas and directions for campaigning from each party, this is a wake up call to the government!
We are campaigning to search for a new home for Bua Noi, the gorilla. We hope to push for the amendment of the Wildlife Protection Act of B.E. 2535, which lacks zoo management regulations. For this reason, we would like to produce a documentary " MY REAL HOME" to raise awareness of the public on the following:
1. In 1976, the western gorilla was added to the CITES list of threatened species and further on being listed as" Critically Endangered" , to the knowledge of the Thai government and the zoo owner. Why gorillas being caged up on the high-rise zoo for the false image of "Conservation" to fool Thai people and to shame the Thai government??. The loophole in the law has made this legal, but this is an appalling excuse to get away with such animal cruelty.
2. How is wildlife conservation understood in Thai society? Is wildlife conservation about caging CITES critical endangered species for people to browse in a zoo which lacks international zoo management standards? Thai people need to figure out why Thailand has never had rules and regulations which enforce standards of zoo management .
3. The objective of the documentary is to make Thai society aware of the urgency for DNP to set the agenda to draft a new zoo management legislation and enact the new law within 180 days from August 13, 2014, which was the day that DNP extended the permit for Pata Zoo regardless of voices around the globe to shut it down.
The Zoo owner should stop giving careless interviews which may distort the truth, and reporters should avoid irresponsible questions about the future of Bua Noi until the knowledge of "conservation" has become clear to the reporters and such knowledge should be transmitted correctly to the public.
The making of "MY REAL HOME" will be based on voluntary basis.
If you are a documentary maker , or have any connections , please contact us at 088-246-8075 / FB" Where is my home?". We will provide you with a script which contains reliable information from our campaign advisor, Dr. Surapon Duangkae who has been acknowledging and witnessing the illtreatment of wildlife in zoo business for decades.( We worked together for WFT 30 years ago.)Any support from friends with skill in creative and sound production, and documentary editing would be much appreciated.
