The picture above is of the Glen Quoich schemes several years after completion. New roads, intakes and pipeline scars.
"Glen Etive is a magical place and should be left as it is, not ruined by the building of hydro power plants. The three eastern schemes are in a designated Wild Land Area, and the whole Glen is a National Scenic Area. For significant developments to take place in a NSA, National Planning Policy states there must be "social, environmental or economic benefits of national importance... to outweigh adverse effects". Considering all seven schemes together will be rated at 6.5 MW - less than one offshore wind turbine - the case for this being an economic benefit of 'national importance' looks very slim indeed. The Highlands are already littered with the scars of poorly-concealed hydro schemes and failed promises from developers. I urge everyone to sign this petition to stop that happening. Do it for Scotland!!!
