@craftscouncil have issued a statement about Friday’s news that @nationalglasscentre and @sunderlanduni glass and ceramics course is teaching out:

Nicky Dewar, Crafts Council’s director of learning and skills, says: “We are alarmed to see yet more craft-based further and higher education courses being closed. Glass is core to Sunderland’s heritage; this news comes as the future of the National Glass Centre hangs in the balance.
 
“These closures endanger important local heritage, close down established routes into employment and jeopardise the sustainability of regional creative businesses. They are devastating to the UK’s global reputation as creative leaders. Who will pass these skills and these stories on, if our economy does not support skilled craft educators to do so?”
