3,557 people have now signed to support Gabriel’s Wharf and the independent businesses that make it what it is.
It’s very clear that people care deeply about this place, its history, its businesses and the community that has grown here over nearly four decades.
Since this petition began, our campaign has reached councillors, cultural organisations, influential figures, the media, BBC, and thousands of Londoners. But despite that extraordinary support, the businesses of Gabriel’s Wharf are still expected to close and leave by 27th September.
And important questions remain unanswered.
Coin Street previously told Lambeth that Gabriel’s Wharf would receive investment so that its existing uses could remain for years to come. Now those same businesses are being removed, while there is still no clear replacement ready to take their place.
So we are continuing to ask:
Why demolish an established, thriving community before there is a clear plan for what comes next?
Why have the existing businesses not been properly included in the future of the site?
And if Coin Street has chosen a strategy that displaces these businesses, why should the financial consequences fall entirely on the small independents being removed?
