Westwood Residents- Get out and Vote Tuesday for Michael Walsh to Support Farming
Why Vote for Michael Walsh:
1) If elected, he will support the Town lawsuit defending their property rights -- including the right to allow farming at 665 Clapboardtree Street (formerly the Prout Farm) .
2) He is by far the most qualified candidate. He has devoted decades of his time in service to the Westwood community (look at his extensive resume!)
3) His opponent, Erin Sibley, developed the petition demanding that Westwood drop the lawsuit defending their property rights, thereby effectively prohibiting farming on a piece of historical farmland. She has no relevant experience she can point to.
It would appear, if elected, that Erin Sibley will attempt to force the Town to drop its lawsuit.
Public records show the Westwood Land Trust President (the party refusing to allow farming on the property), along with the primary donor to the WLT and his relatives have funded $5,000 out of the approximately $8,000 that the Sibley Campaign has raised.
The bottom line for me is two-fold: 1) No one wealthy family should have this much influence in Westwood. 2) Farms are rapidly disappearing, we need to do whatever we can to support them.
I believe that the majority of Westwood residents support farming and the lawsuit; the evidence is in the 715 signatures on save farming petition, and in the 900+ signatures on a separate petition to support the Bean Farm. We need to prove it by taking the time to let our voices be heard in the form of a vote. We cannot simply be the silent majority.
Beyond the farm issue, if you compare the two candidates, I have no doubt that you will pick Michael Walsh based on his experience and long standing history of accomplishment and service to Westwood. This stands in stark contrast to his opponent.
Please take the time to look at both candidates’ websites and compare; you will find the decision is easy. I am asking you to vote for Michael Walsh for the Select Board.
