Campaign Latest & event 11am tomorrow 25th Feb, Sheff City Centre!

Dear Supporters, We found out yesterday that the Sheffield City Council (SCC) debate on Ecclesall Road trees has been put back to Wednesday 5th April at 2pm. This was a decision by SCC. This delay was beyond our control but could definitely work in our favour as we have more time to build the campaign. We are confident that felling on Ecclesall Road is very unlikely to occur before the 5th April for three reasons: 1. SCC are required to receive the Independent Tree Panel (ITP) report on Ecclesall Road proposals before they can start felling. SCC have said yesterday that the ITP report is not due for 'some weeks'. 2. After the ITP has provided their report, SCC are required to provide one weeks notice before any felling can start. 3. It would be a PR disaster for SCC if they tried to start felling before April 5th because they have already agreed to debate the issue (and we have nearly 6000 signatures and counting) Of course the campaign remains ever vigilant and if SCC tried to start felling prior to the April 5th or any time afterwards we would arrange an emergency mass peaceful protest. We'll be doing some live performance - fancy being a tree? As well as talking to people and handing out tree-shaped biscuits. Bring your family, this should be loud, colourful and fun!
