Dear Supporters,
The Draft Library Strategy documents for the Cabinet meeting on July 16th are now available on the Ealing Council website: https://ealing.cmis.uk.com/ealing/Meetings/tabid/70/ctl/ViewMeetingPublic/mid/397/Meeting/6182/Committee/3/Default.aspx
It’s a very gloomy read, in view of the fact that the Council intends to go ahead with its Draft Libraries Strategy 2019-2023; having ‘found’ bidders for 5 (Hanwell, Northfields, Perivale, Pitshanger and West Ealing Libraries )
out of 7 of the earmarked libraries to be community managed. Greenford Library and Wood End, seem to have temporarily received ‘Stays of Execution’. Please share this document widely.
All is not necessarily lost yet! Please take some comfort from the fact that sustained protest and campaigning can and does work. Yesterday, Essex council abandoned its library closure plans due to a forceful public and high profile campaign (https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/jul/09/essex-drops-library-closure-plans-following-sustained-public-protests
If at all possible please help us to March from Hanwell Library to West Ealing Library this Saturday 13th July. See the Flyer for more details.
Thank you.
In solidarity.
Grace (Akuba)
