Thank You! You Make a Difference
We just wrapped up a productive meeting with RDCK representatives, and we're encouraged by the progress! It seems they've agreed to remove Rotacrest Hall from the list of candidate locations for their office expansion—a huge win for our 45-year legacy and the vital programs serving our 190+ seniors. While we're awaiting final confirmation in writing, this feels like a real shift toward honoring the hall's purpose-built role in fostering health, connection, and accessibility.
That said, we must remain vigilant: Decisions like this need clear commitments to stick. Your voices made this possible—thank you for your letters, shares, and support!
Next Up: The RDCK Board Meeting in Nelson Mark your calendars for the Regular Open Board Meeting on October 16, 2025, at 9 a.m. (Pacific Time) at the RDCK Board Room, 202 Lakeside Drive, Nelson (or join via Zoom—details on rdck.ca). This is our chance to reinforce the pause on any Rotacrest plans and push for lasting protections. If you can attend, speak, or submit comments, please do—let's pack the room (virtual or in-person)!
Preventing This in the Future To ensure community spaces like Rotacrest aren't at risk again, we're advocating for:
A protected long-term lease for New Horizons, locking in our "preferred client" status.
Potentially, committment for the Park as a whole - to keep it for the purposes intended and honor the community and individual donations, efforts and needs.
We'll keep you posted on follow-ups and how to get involved. In the meantime, spread the word—our growing post-COVID programs (900+ monthly visits!) depend on spaces like this. Together, we're building a stronger, more inclusive Creston.
