477 to be demolished. Help us save others!

Last night the Planning Committee of Merri-bek Council approved the demolition and building of a new structure - with conditions - at 477 Sydney Road.  The main problem was that 477 did not have a heritage overlay and the developer is uninterested in incorporating any part of the existing shop into the building.

While an ammendment - including reduction of the building by one level (from seven floors to six floors) was passed - the developer may contest the changed approval at VCAT.  

We now seek to ensure that those historic shopfronts along Sydney Road not yet covered by a heritage overlay are included. 

Sydney Road has an outstanding architectural heritage.
