The Save Canberra United (SCU) campaign, which has garnered substantial support and generous donations from the community in April of this year, is undergoing a significant transition. We are pleased to announce publicly the establishment of Canberra Women’s Football Inc. (CWF), a dedicated organisation committed to the development and promotion of women’s football in the ACT region.
A Heartfelt Thank You
First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to all supporters of the Save Canberra United campaign for their unwavering commitment to ensuring the future of women’s football in Canberra. Your donations and steadfast support have been invaluable, and we are honored to have such a dedicated community behind the Canberra United team.
Concerns and Clarifications
We understand and share the community’s concerns regarding the recent announcements of players leaving the club. Despite reports attributing this to uncertainties surrounding the men's A-League bid, we believe there is a demonstrated lack of successful team management in the past and currently, and this has played a significant role in players choosing to leave the club. This belief is reinforced by our ongoing efforts to engage with Capital Football for clarity on fund management and a robust management structure, which are unfortunately yet to be answered.
Commitment to Accountability
In light of these developments, we are committed to ensuring that every dollar raised by the SCU campaign is used effectively to support Canberra United and its players. Consequently, we will continue our fundraising efforts but will hold onto the funds until we have a guaranteed way of directly benefiting the club and its players. Our priority remains to provide direct and impactful support to Canberra United.
Transition to Canberra Women’s Football Inc.
As part of our commitment to fostering women’s football, Save Canberra United has now transitioned into Canberra Women’s Football Inc. (CWF). This change signifies our expanded mission and dedication to creating a structured platform for the development of women’s football in the ACT. Our social media profiles will be updated to reflect this new identity, and we look forward to continuing our mission under this new banner.
