Thanks to everyone that's signed the petition to Save Cai Creek!
If you live in the Kootenays please share this petition with your friends and neighbours. We will need local support to see this forest saved from logging.
The petition has been sent to the Province of BC
On Friday February 9 2024 I sent a letter with the petition results to:
- Nathan Cullen (Minister of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship)
- Bruce Ralston (Minister of Forests)
- Katrine Conroy (Minister of Finance; MLA Kootenay West)
I highlighted the over 11,000 Canadians and almost 3,000 British Columbians that signed this petition. Thanks for your support!
BC Timber Sales has scheduled Cai Creek for auction in fall 2024.
A date has been set. Cai Creek and two other cutblocks totalling 100 hectares of intact primary forest will be auctioned for logging by BC Timber Sales in the last quarter of 2024. If you live in BC and especially the West Kootenays please email your MLA and ask them to protect Cai Creek. Time is running out and a public outcry direct to your MLA is what's needed more than anything else.
The Ponderosa Pines of Cai Creek made the TOP 30 on UBC's Big Tree Registry and two Western White Pines made the TOP 10!
The results are in and the Pine in Cai Creek are some of the biggest in BC! A total of 12 trees were submitted but only 6 were verified last fall. All four Ponderosa Pine verified made the BC Big Tree Top 30 biggest of their species (#22,#25,#28,#29). The two Western White Pine measured were both in the Top 10! (#8 and #9).
Thanks again for your support!
