Good News - Burlish Meadows to be retained

Petition update: Burlish Meadows to be retained
Thank you to everyone who signed and shared our petition, submitted an objection, completed the consultation, or came to council meetings to speak up for Burlish Meadows.
At last week’s additional Cabinet meeting, Wyre Forest District Council voted to retain the land and not proceed with the proposed disposal for a football training complex. More than 4,000 people signed the petition, and the Council also received hundreds of objections.
Councillor Marcus Hart said that concerns about the consultation, the loss of open space, and impacts on habitat and biodiversity outweighed the health and wellbeing benefits of the proposed pitches. He said he agreed with that view and voted to retain the land.
This is an important outcome for Burlish Meadows and for everyone who values its open space, wildlife and public access. The decision followed a strong public response, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time to make their views heard.
The petition remains a record of the community’s support for protecting Burlish Meadows. We’ll continue to follow what happens next and keep supporters informed.
