Thank you to everyone who has signed our petition – we’re well on our way to pass 100k in the next hour!

The scenes from Kabul and reports from Afghanistan over the past few days have been horrifying. The situation is dire, but we believe there is still a chance to save some – hopefully all – of the British Council employees.

We need your help – please email your MP today

Parliament is meeting tomorrow to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. We need you to email your MP asking them to intervene in the debate and ask the government if British Council employees will be saved.

Here’s a link to a free website which makes it quick and easy to email your MP https://www.writetothem.com/?a=westminstermp. You just need to drop in your postcode and it’ll find your local MP. Write your message and fill in personal details so the webpage can verify you’re a constituent.

Here are some key messages to include in your message:

  • You’re one of nearly 100K people to have signed this petition in the past 6 days.
  • You want your MP, as your elected representative, to ask in Parliament tomorrow if British Council employees will be given priority evacuation to the UK. For those outside of Kabul, the British government must guarantee they will be evacuated once the situation calms down.
  • Ask your MP to reply, to confirm their support so we can publicly celebrate MPs who advocate for British Council employees being protected from the Taliban.

Thanks to your continued support, we’ve continued to receive coverage in the media including Politics Home and CapX

Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs was asked on Radio 4 Today’s programme this morning about Afghan British Council employee’s - the first time a minister has been put on the spot! Listen to his response here - we’re going to make sure the petition remains on the government agenda and that they do the right thing!
