Former Renault Formula 1 racing driver, and current Vice President of BRDC Derek Warwick, has backed the calls to 'Save Belle Vue'.

Warwick, whose distinguished career includes 11 seasons and 147 starts in Formula One, wins in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Sportscar Championship, and three seasons in the British Touring Car Championship,started his illustrious career racing the oval tracks in the F2 Superstox.

In a submission to Manchester Council Warwick wrote, "Please consider my objection to this re-development, it will only line the pockets of a developer because of it’s location, I’m sure they will give you reasons for the development.

It’s difficult enough trying to keep motor racing and greyhound racing going without taking another track from the UK, it gives so many competitors and spectators fun, competition and a place to go."
