Last week Barnet Council’s strategic planning committee voted against Barnet FC's proposals for a new stadium at Barnet Playing Fields, describing it as "unacceptable in principle and in detail".
If you have a spare 3 hours you can watch the recording of the whole committee meeting here. Barnet Post have reported on the outcome in a couple of articles: "Fans disappointed as Barnet FC stadium application refused" and "Ward councillor welcomes Barnet FC stadium decision".
We were pleased that four councillors took the time to speak out against these disastrous plans, and we would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Anne Clarke, councillor for Cricklewood Ward and GLA representative; Zahra Beg, councillor for Underhill Ward; David Longstaff, councillor for Barnet Vale; and Paul Edwards, councillor for High Barnet. Some of them have been facing a rather unpleasant backlash today, so if you'd like to send a short message of support and thanks that would be nice.

Finally, and most importantly, we would like to say a big thanks to you all for supporting the 'Save Barnet Playing Fields' campaign.
This has been a huge community effort with easily a thousand hours spent fighting for our most precious community asset. And this positive outcome was only possible thanks to you all. Thank you for spreading the word, thanks for your objections, your emails and for displaying the window poster. These actions did add up to make a big impact.
WHAT NEXT?
Barnet FC have previously stated they intend to appeal if the planning application is refused. We are ready to continue this fight and, of course, will let you know of any further developments.
