The B.C. government is currently considering whether or not to expand the wolf trapping season on Vancouver Island this spring, in a misguided attempt to preserve deer populations. However, there is no evidence that the unique coastal wolves on northern Vancouver Island kill large numbers of deer, said the Executive Director of Pacific Wild, Ian McAllister, to DeSmog Canada. McAllister has been studying coastal wolves for over two decades. Despite an absence of adequate data, analysis and evidence, the B.C. government wants to start trapping them with snares and leg hold traps for 10 months of the year. Last month, two dogs on Vancouver Island got caught in leg-hold traps used to trap wolves. **WARNING: Video at the following link contains disturbing content that may be upsetting to some viewers: www.cheknews.ca/nanaimo-dog-walker-calling-for-trappers-to-put-up-warning-signs-417670/ Leg-hold traps are inhumane, cruel and should be banned. #SAVEBCWOLVES and TAKE ACTION to protect these genetically distinct and globally rare coastal wolves - sign this petition and please share widely.
