Almost a year ago today, we launched this petition. Now we are taking the B.C. government to court, challenging the legality of their controversial wolf cull.
Since this petition was launched, our campaign has mobilized hundreds of thousands of people worldwide to speak out against the cull, among them scientists, academics, celebrities, and more. As news of the inhumane and unscientific cull spread, along with concrete evidence of undue industry influence, local and international media coverage was unrelenting, making this a top news story in B.C. in 2015.
Tragically, the government hasn’t budged -- in fact, they’ve ESCALATED the cull and are trying to ramp up the wolf hunt.
We have been left with no other choice but to take this to the courts, which is what we did yesterday, together with Valhalla Wilderness Society, and backed by Humane Society International / Canada and a bunch of other groups cheering us on.
Here is a link to the press release with all the details: http://pacificwild.org/news-and-resources/media-releases/courts-asked-to-rule-on-bc%E2%80%99s-controversial-wolf-cull
This case asks the courts to determine whether the provincial government’s decision to cull wolves reasonably constitutes proper management of wolves if what they are actually doing is killing wolves to avoid protecting critical mountain caribou habitat so industry can continue unchecked.

Want to do even more?
The government has extended the deadline to provide feedback on the proposals we wrote to you about in December. If you haven’t had the time to comment, you have until January 31 to do so. If you have commented, there are more proposals that will benefit from your comments. The most offensive ones we’ve found so far are proposing to:
- remove all limits on the wolf hunt in the Peace region (Proposal #2124) and most of the Thompson-Nicola management unit (#2084);
- allow ranchers to trap and kill wolves on their land in the Thompson-Nicola MU (#2086);
- up the trophy hunt of wolves in the Kootenays (#2095);
- allow an extra two weeks of wolf hunting in the Omineca region (#2110); and
- triple the grizzly trophy hunt in the Peace region (#2147).
To comment, please visit pacificwild.org/bearsandwolves for links, talking points, and more before January 31, 2016.
Thanks as always for all that you do.
