You are all amazing.
I emailed Tim Davie, Director General of the BBC when we had 3000 signatures
tim.davie@ bbc.co.uk
You may not agree with everything I said but I think its wise to be willing to compromise. This is what I wrote then:
Dear Mr Davie
Over 3000 people have so far signed my change.org petition to save Autumwatch. It may mean nothing to you, but in these times of Internet viewing, those signatures are probably from your biggest demographic, so I hope you will listen to us.
I understand that financial considerations are at the forefront of any programme the BBC makes but the Watches are hugely popular and we'd gladly forgo yet another celebrity quiz show and expensive sets to keep them.
If you cannot finance Autumwatch in its current form then why not a studio based version with live camera feeds from around the country? The interview between Sir David Attenborough and Chris Packham was the highlight of Winterwatch and could have been filmed anywhere. Interviews with volunteers, wildlife cameramen, rewilders and wildlife gardeners could all be considered.
When I read that Winterwatch will be a week long I assume you mean only 4 days. All that set up and expense for just 4 days? How can that be financially sound?
Please reconsider your decision to cancel Autumwatch. Give all three watches two weeks. It is what the BBC does best.
Kind regards
Marion Veal
