Hoping for a last surge in petition signatures after the programme, before we present it to AQA. The recent election result has led to more A level subjects being culled, but most of the others are being cut by Ofqual, the exams watchdog, who claim they are not academically rigorous enough (eg Culture and Communications, International Development). This is NOT the reason Anthropology is being axed - in our case, it is because the exam board AQA are not making any money on it because numbers are small. We argue that A level Anthropology needs time to grow, that numbers are on the increase this year, and that starting from scratch in a discipline which is relatively unheard of and where graduates have not traditionally been able to go into teaching was always going to take a bit of time. In addition, now Anthropology could pick up students from other subjects such as International Development and its strong academic discipline deserves a place in British schools.
