May 17, 2026 — UPDATE: THIS MOVEMENT IS GROWING FAR BEYOND WHAT ANYONE EXPECTED. In just over a month, what started as alumni and families refusing to stay silent has now become a statewide conversation. Our petition has officially started making headlines and appearing across search engines, news coverage, social media platforms, and public discussions throughout Florida. We have now seen: ✔ Multiple news stories published across Florida ✔ Rally coverage spreading online and through media outlets ✔ Petition updates gaining traction publicly ✔ Alumni testimonies reshared across platforms ✔ Thousands of people reached statewide ✔ Support coming from graduates spanning nearly 20 years People are finally seeing what we have known all along: FLYCA was never “just another program.” It was structure. It was discipline. It was hope. It was family. For many of us, it was survival. But despite all the visibility, this fight is NOT over. WHAT STILL NEEDS TO HAPPEN: ➡ Governor Ron DeSantis needs to directly address this issue and review the preservation framework we submitted. ➡ State leadership must stop treating this as simply a National Guard matter and recognize it as a Florida youth, workforce, and public safety issue. ➡ Media coverage must continue statewide so this program cannot quietly disappear. ➡ Supporters need to continue: • Sharing the petition • Posting videos and testimonies • Contacting media and legislators • Keeping public pressure on decision makers • Reminding Florida that no other program in this state offers this model for at-risk youth This movement has already proven something powerful: People do not fight this hard for something that did not change lives. FLYCA changed lives. That is exactly why we are still here fighting for it. #SaveFLYCA #ChallengeAccepted
