Over the last several days, we have taken major steps to fight for the preservation of the Florida Youth Challenge Academy at Camp Blanding. Our coalition has now formally submitted the FLYCA preservation proposal to multiple state and national leaders, including: • Governor Ron DeSantis • Florida legislative leadership • Department of Juvenile Justice • Department of Children and Families • Department of Military Affairs • Members of Congress and federal leadership offices In addition to the executive proposal, we have completed and distributed a full Version 2 preservation framework outlining: ✔ A civilian-state partnership transition model ✔ Financial sustainability planning ✔ Legal risk mitigation strategies ✔ Long-term operational protections for the academy This is no longer just about one Florida academy. Youth ChalleNGe academies in multiple states are now facing closure this June as National Guard priorities shift nationwide. Florida has the opportunity to lead the country by becoming the model for how these life-changing programs can be preserved instead of lost. Right now: • The current cadet class is scheduled to be the final class if closure proceeds • Additional cadet candidates who were interviewing are being told they may never get the chance to attend These young people deserve better. This movement is being heard. Officials are responding. Decision-makers are reviewing.
