Almost exactly four months after launching our petition, we have reached the incredible milestone of TEN THOUSAND signatures!! These include 6,632 signatures from Albuquerque residents. WOW!!! 

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared. Of course, our work is not yet done -- now we get to aim for 17,000 signatures! In the late 1970s, the Elena Gallegos Open Space was saved from development by a petition that was signed by 17,000 Burqueños. (The petition urged Albuquerque's City Councilors to approve a city-wide quarter-cent sales tax increase; the tax was enacted, and the revenue funded the purchase of the Elena Gallegos in 1982!) It took 17,000 signatures then, and it may take 17,000 signatures now, to save the land! Let's do it!!

In other news: 

Our "Call the Mayor" Day was a success! We received messages from many dozens of our supporters, confirming that they called in; our social media posts on the event garnered hundreds of 'likes'; and by midday, we overwhelmed the Mayor's phone lines (his aides began simply recording names and tallying 'no' votes against the Education Center, because the volume of calls was otherwise unmanageable!). So while we can't know exactly how many people called in, we are confident we had a strong turnout and made an impact! Thank you to everyone who participated!
