Thank you for your support yesterday, it was WONDERFUL. There is nothing like a demonstration of community spirit! Six speakers presented submissions covering the issues, which include the dangerous combination of high traffic flow, street scape and pedestrians; the totally inappropriate location; the multiple major non-conformances to Council guidelines which resulted in multiple rejections of the submitted DAs; the realities of locating a large child care centre in a residential area; and 87 Bowden Street’s historical relevance and continued contribution to humanity in Sydney and Ryde. Also tabled were submissions by several immediate neighbours on the affects the existing traffic situation is having on their enjoyment of their residential area and the challenges it brings to families with young children. The proposed build will mean a loss of privacy to three neighbours and eternal shadow for one neighbour, and its within 100 yards, on two sides, of two historical church’s. After the submissions concluded, the Commissioner undertook a street walk and visited several of the premises that would be adversely affected by a successful DA. The Court convened at 11.00am and reconvened at Macquarie Street L&E Court, and the hearing continued throughout yesterday afternoon and today. We haven’t received any feedback and don’t know when a decision will be handed down. We will advise you as soon as we can. Once again, a major THANK YOU to those who were able to attend and support the speakers, and a big thank you to the speakers – especially the strong summary and close by Counsellor Craig Chung of Sydney City Council, local resident and ex Liberal Counsellor of City of Ryde Council. We know it is a big ask for anyone to take time from work, and we know many wanted to attend but had issues with employment.
