3rd of January was a sad day when Summerset hired many security guards and cowardly fenced up the property before 6am to cut down the Oak trees.
Shame on you Julian Cook, Aaron Smail and Adam Tyrie for pursuing the profit and profit only, while ignoring the community and climate emergency.

"At this moment of time as I write, four beautiful oak trees that were planted to connect and shade the historical Ngahere pathway to the Domain Bush area are being cut down by Summerset, an elder care developer company that verbalises it holds sustainability as its core value, but obviously no understanding of what that really means.
The Parnell community has continued for a month to make a plea for the preservation of these trees that line the peripheral of the property, and asked only that they give them a chance by re-working the Oaks into their current design.
If Summerset and their architects had accomplished this, the wider community and the future generations would have reaped the rewards of these living monuments to our shared cultural and natural heritage -
Supporting the eco-system, and protecting the canopy of shade, shelter and life.
But once again with the current RMA laws that allows this sacrilegious removal of fully grown and healthy trees for profit and no support from Council and the government we have all lost."
We may have lost this fight, but let's win the war by getting involved in proposed RMA (Resource Management Act) reforms. We need to add the 'Blanket tree protection' back into the Act to stop this tree massacre happening all over the Auckland. Please get involved:
