And as I take stock of the year, what I'm struck by more than anything—more than the latest offensive tweets or even the serious challenges to the rule of law—is the inspiring activism of people like you. Across the country, you are standing up for human rights and American ideals. You're showing up at airports, protesting at state capitols, and holding your elected leaders accountable. You are standing up against hatred, discrimination, and dangerous attacks on our democracy. You are the embodiment of American ideals. You are the representation of an America that believes respect for human rights is the foundation of peace and security. That's a vision worth fighting for. So, as we face the many challenges ahead, I'm optimistic. Protecting rights isn't a partisan exercise, but it is political. It requires engaged citizens like you, leaders of integrity, and organizations like ours to roll up our sleeves and do hard work, even in the most challenging and divisive environments.
