55% of Public Toilets in Delhi UNUSABLE
Feb 15, 2020 —
In a survey of public toilets in Delhi, led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Government of India), 55% of the toilets surveyed were found UNUSABLE.
In Delhi, toilets outside an office/home premise are of two types-
- Public toilets (>1000 in number)- primarily a responsibility of Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Cantonment and NDMC. Found in public spaces of streets, markets, etc.
- Community toilets (<500 in number)- primarily build by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and Delhi Municipal Corporation, for informal/ slum settlements
Before we start blaming one political party or another, let us remember access to a clean, safe toilet is a human right. Playing politics over poop will not solve the challenge of open defecation. We need to demand our government and political representative to build USEABLE toilets; build #SwachhDelhi4All
