Religious and philosophical exemptions to mandatory vaccinations lower herd immunity in a community. This leads to outbreaks of preventable illnesses, such as the measles outbreak within the Minnesotan Somali community during 2015. In order to prevent this, non-medical exemptions should be removed from the legislation, creating safer communities.
