After years of work, a well-respected animal rescuer was hired as the Executive Director at Chicago Animal Care and Control.  Giving up her job as a a successful attorney, Susan Russell has stepped into a role which requires much change to occur and she needs the assistance and support of the rescue community.

Recently, Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez helped sponsor an ordinance to require Chicago to become a No-Kill city.  While many in the animal welfare community were supportive of this effort, now Alderman Lopez is trying to push Susan Russell out so he can give the job to one of his own people.

We, as the animal welfare community, demand that Alderman Lopez stop using the animals at CACC as pawns in a political game.  We demand that he stop pushing for the outster of Susan Russell through protests, social media and his political connections.

 Susan Russell is a tireless advocate who has just taken the reins of a large, entrenched organization which has multiple layers of change that must be addressed over time. Susan was selected by a working group of various local animal welfare players and approved by City Hall after extensive screening.

 We ask Alderman Lopez to support Susan Russell and her efforts as we believe she is the person best qualified to make change at CACC.
