My focus is on finding a solution. How can we hold the owners of aggressive problem dogs accountable? What resources can we share, the steps taken, the legal process, the media coverage?
In the last month, I've worked on understanding the legal statutes and filed notice of a tort claim against the county for failing in their sworn mission to keep residents safe. I've also filed a civil suit against the man next door for 'maintaining a private nuisance'.
I've also reached out in Santa Fe County and found that there are many other similar cases. As a result of that post, KRQE news interviewed me. They focused on the drama and pain and cut out my focus on coming together and having something good come from Rosie's death. Newsweek then took that and built upon the story.
Neither one has asked for solutions. I have.
If you have any suggestions or comments, let me know. If you'd like to add your voice to the discussion on how we deal with the repeat owners of problem dogs, then reach out. Thank you.
