Yes, Santa Cruz does need additional housing. Let's increase our housing the smart way. We need bills that will forward the building for very low-income residents. It does no good to build more market-rate housing in Santa Cruz. Market-rate housing will not meet the needs of the YIMBYS because they do not want that high of rent. Building more market-rate housing brings negative impacts to Santa Cruz because the population that can afford the high rents are not current residents of Santa Cruz. It does not make sense to have developers charge high market-rate rents and make a lot of money for them by crowding our town. Please vote NO on SB 9 and B10. Please support bills that will encourage companies like Google, Amazon, and Facebook to gain tax credits for building workforce housing that is not 5 stories high in the town of Santa Cruz. You know the streets of Santa Cruz cannot support additional market-rate homes. Care about the city you are elected to serve.
