We had a meeting last night at the South County Farms Association with Supervisor Sylvia Arenas and it went really well! She heard our concerns about the proposed zoning amendments and agreed this isn’t the best way forward. She said she’ll look into halting or delaying the process so that more research can be done.  She urged us all to keep speaking up at the upcoming County meetings.

This is a great step, but we need to keep the pressure on. Share the petition, attend meetings, and make sure our voices continue to be heard! It’s not over yet!

Key points in the upcoming meetings that we’re trying to drive home are:

—Commercial stables need to be allowed in all zoning in the county
—Horses are inherently valuable to the community (through youth, veterans and disabled programs, exposure to agriculture and livestock for adults and children in urban communities, connection to nature and Western heritage)
—Massive negative economic downstream affects to the community
—Most importantly, share your personal stories and the impact that horses have had on you
