The Project:A Pit Stop public toilet, staffed full time by trained and professional stewards, located on the 400 block of O’Farrell Street in San Francisco’s Downtown  neighborhood.

Who pays for it:?

All fees associated with the program are covered by San Francisco Public Works and the Hunters Point Family Association.

Benefits of the program:

Cleaner sidewalks in the immediate vicinity. The Hunters Point Family Association staff clean the sidewalk in front of the Pit Stop every morning and keep it clean throughout the day.

Cleaner streets. Each Pit stop records upwards of number of uses a day. That’s translates to fewer public urinations and defecations in the surrounding area every day.

Safer streets. The Hunters Point Family team members are formerly incarcerated individuals who have been trained to deal with public safety issues. They save people’s lives and provide access to services. The Hunters Point Family staff are a wonderful group of people who really know how to help people and provide this much need service.
