WE NEED YOUR VOICES/PRESENCE: The SD City Council's Rules Committee will convene a Special Meeting on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in order to discuss and take action on the following items: ITEM-1: Report from the Office of the Mayor regarding the CONSIDERATION OF A PROPOSED BALLOT MEASURE TO INCREASE THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX (TOT) UP TO 1, 2 AND 3% TO FUND A CONTIGUOUS PHASE III CONVENTION CENTER EXPANSION, INITIATIVES TO REDUCE HOMELESSNESS (a paltry $10 million) AND ROAD REPAIRS ITEM-2: Report from Council District Four regarding the FORMAT, STRUCTURE, AND SCOPE FOR A PROPOSED SELECT COMMITTEE ON HOMELESSNESS. ITEM-3: Report from Council District Three regarding EQUAL PAY ORDINANCE The Special Meeting of the Rules Committee will be held in the Committee Room on the 12th floor of the City Administration Building, 202 C Street, San Diego, CA. More info on Item 2: On March 20, 2017, Council President Myrtle Cole called a Special Council Meeting on Homelessness. Presentations from the Mayor’s office, the County of San Diego’s Office of Integrative Services, the Housing Commission and San Diego State University’s Institute for Public Health delivered information on the current state of homelessness as well as an update on several programs and efforts addressing homelessness in the city and region. The presentations were followed by hours of testimony from over 400 public members and local organizations which presented various proposals and solutions to help address the issue. At the Special Council Meeting, Council President Cole made a motion to accept the reports from the City of San Diego and the San Diego Housing Commission and present an item at the next Rules Committee to form a Select Committee on Homelessness; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Ward and passed with a unanimous 9-0 vote.
