At Homeless Connect yesterday at Golden Hall, Mayor Kevin Faulconer actually engaged in a brief conversation with WOSDer Martha Sullivan about activating the City's Emergency Shelter Plan in place for Qualcomm Stadium, ala the 2007 wildfires. He learned something from his refusal to respond to me at his press conference last month :). The Mayor's Senior Advisor for Housing Solutions, Stacie Spector, and Martha had a good convo about it until Stacie kept telling Martha how hard she's trying to find emergency shelter for the thousands of unsheltered San Diegans. Martha pointed out that in 2007, Qualcomm Stadium was mobilized in a matter of a few days as Emergency Shelter for people made homeless by wildfires, and that there is an Emergency Shelter Plan in place for Qualcomm Stadium. When Stacie kept talking about how she's looking for locations, Martha calmly told her she appreciated Stacie's personal commitment, but she's not having an effect. Stacie got very offended, said Martha was being rude, she wasn't taking Martha's "shit" anymore and stomped off. We are hitting a nerve!
