This dog was killed today. We had people who were willing to adopt the dog but because the dog barked at people the animal pound refused to release the dog without the intervention of an animal rescue group. I personally got involved and because we do not have an animal rescue group in Big Bear, no one had a crate that was BIG ENOUGH to put the dog in. I messaged people who have large crates but they never responded.
Instead of allowing our adopter to walk out the front door with this dog, they KILLED the dog. That's right. Because we do not have a dog rescue group in Big Bear that has the necessary equipment that enables us to remove large dogs with crates, the animal pound refused to allow the rescue or adopter to remove the dog by simply leading the dog out of the facility with a leash.
Call (909) 386-9820 KELLY PAPP: kpapp@dph.sbcounty.gov at the managing facility of our animal pound and let her know how you feel that she would not allow this dog to WALK out of the front door alive instead of the back door in a body bag.
If our community continues to surrender dogs and cats to this facility under ANY circumstance, this is what happens. We are a NO KILL community and our own animal pound kills with out our communities permission. We need to elect a City Board that reflects the will of our community. How can our own facility make requirements of bringing dogs out of a facility in a crate when they know we don't even have an dog rescue group in Big Bear.
BARC does not have a facility in Big Bear. Please call and email anyone who will listen and let them know that this killing needs to stop.
