Statue Progress!

Hello everyone! I realize it's been several months since our last update. We always knew this would be a long project, and Rob and his team have been incredibly busy. Many of you may have attended or watched online the beautiful memorial service held in London earlier this year. I had intended to do a detailed write up about it here, but each time I sat down to write, it just all felt too overwhelming, and very personal. The main news now, which again some of you may have seen online already, is that the talented Paul Kidby has revealed the first stage of the statue's design - a stunning bust of Sir Terry. This quote is from Paul Kidby's website www.paulkidby.com "To create a large scale piece of public art is a great responsibility. To do Terry justice I must finely balance his public persona and private self by ensuring that I honour him not only as an extraordinary writer whose books delighted readers around the world but also on a more personal level to those who knew him as a friend, beloved husband and father. My first step in this process has been to create a head and shoulders bust, 40 cm high. This has enabled me to focus primarily on facial features and expression to capture a bearing that I feel best represents him as we all remember. Only when I was happy with his physical appearance did I turn my attention to making his glasses (four or five days of fiddling and swearing) and trademark hat. It was a great help to have both of these precious objects, and his well worn leather jacket, to use as direct reference, thank you to Rob Wilkins and Lyn Pratchett for lending them to me." I'm just a fan who wanted to share the idea of showing how much we adored Sir Terry and his work. I've been blown away by how many messages we got from around the world, and how incredibly supportive Rob, his team, and Paul have all been. They really understand how much Sir Terry, Discworld, and all his books mean to everyone. They make us a family, with shared experiences, even though we may never have met. And I can't wait to see where it takes us next.
