This is a key time now with a new Prime Minister in post. Lets see if Boris Johnson is as keen to see an improvement in policing as he says that he is!

Kindest regards to you all.

Kevin Moore.

Hi Kevin,

If you remember when we last spoke during your visit to Westminster I told you I’d be writing to the new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, pointing out that now was a good time for him and his government to seriously consider setting up a Police Royal Commission. I’ve done so and the letter went off earlier in the week. See attached for detail.

I think it does present an opportunity (whatever my personal views of Johnson!), as it would give the government an opportunity to do something sensible on policing which would be both practical and, frankly, cheap compared to some of his other policy announcements!

The key, from your perspective, would be the opportunity this presents for you to push out a change.org email to all and sundry to really try to drive traffic toward the half million mark.

Consequently, I’ve drafted some copy below that you may want to use. As ever, my friend, feel free to amend it however way you like:

Dear xxxxxx

Latest update Commission.on our Police Royal

My neighbouring MP for Eastbourne, Stephen Lloyd, who has been leading on this initiative in Parliament has contacted me to say that he’s just written to the new PM, Boris Johnson, urging that his government take this opportunity to implement a police royal commission.

Mr Lloyd reiterated what I’ve been campaigning on from the very beginning - that the public have lost trust in the politicians when it comes to policing and that the only way a robust, expert and independent overview of our policing needs for the future can be properly undertaken would be a royal commission. The panel could look at the problems and challenges the police face in today’s modern world and how these challenges can be suitably addressed and funded.

The conclusion of such a commission (remember the last one was over 60 years ago) would give whichever government was in charge a serious and in-depth report to properly update and resource our police in the 21st Century.

It’s really important now that we help Mr Lloyd keep the pressure up in Parliament by forwarding on this email to any of your friends and colleagues urging that they also sign my public petition.

Regards,

Stephen
