We therefore now need to take advantage of the momentum that has been gained and the media coverage that it has already attracted! We do need your help to make an even bigger impact! Please consider publicly voicing your support for this petition regarding the holding of a Royal Commission into the future of policing in the UK. A online petition calling for a Royal Commission has been put in place which inside of a week has already attracted well over 200,000 signatures! This can be found at change.org and it will shortly have the URL of change.org/protectpolicing.
It is nearly 60 years since the last such event took place and policing has changed considerably in that time as well as the demand placed upon it. It is therefore critical that another one is held as soon as possible. It has been acknowledged by many within policing that its current situation has reached a crisis point with huge reductions in police officer numbers as well as many leaving the organisation disillusioned.
The holding of a Royal Commission into policing will ensure that a 'root and branch review is conducted in order to identify what we want in terms of a police service in this country in the future. It will also ensure that policing is funded through a sustainable formula.
