🚨 Help Stop Overdevelopment in Santa Monica!
City Council Votes on Agenda Item 12A – Tuesday, May 13th, 2025
Dear Neighbors,
Santa Monica is at a tipping point. On Tuesday, May 13, the City Council will vote on Agenda Item 12A—a package of five development proposals that would dramatically reshape our community, strip away public input, and hand control to developers.
🚫 What’s at Stake:
SB 79: Forces approval of 15-story buildings near any rail or bus stop—gutting local zoning and inviting massive overdevelopment.
End to Owner-Occupancy Requirement for single-family lot splits—turning neighborhoods into investment zones.
Eliminates Public Input on commercial developments—projects approved behind closed doors, no council vote required.
Upzones 1331 Wilshire & 2644 30th Street—sets a dangerous precedent for dense, out-of-scale buildings.
Cuts Public Speaking Time at Council meetings—silencing resident voices even further.
Every member of this City Council has accepted campaign contributions from developers and affiliated political action committees. This represents a serious conflict of interest and may constitute a violation of the Fair Political Practices Commission’s (FPPC) Pay-to-Play restrictions. Furthermore, the lack of transparency in how these proposals are being advanced raises legitimate concerns about potential Brown Act violations.
These proposals are being pushed by a Council heavily funded by developer interests. They do not prioritize safety, livability, or public health—and will irreversibly alter Santa Monica.
