We have learned that the Committee on Trash and Sanitation and City Council will vote today on Intro 1123-B, the bill that enables the Department of Finance to charge co-op and condo homeowners in buildings with 10+ units up to $55 per year per apartment to pay for the trash containerization program.

There is still time to contact your city council member and ask them to vote against the bill unless co-op and condo homeowners are exempted from the fee. https://council.nyc.gov/districts/

There are multiple exemptions provided for affordable rental housing and single-family and two-family homeowners were provided containers for free. This is an unfair additional tax and would be subject to interest charges and tax liens.
