Howdy folks,
I hope this quick update finds you all well and coping with this few days of heat we are having.
Last week the plight of the St Kilda Mangroves finally got some media attention, kicked off with radio interviews on ABC Breakfast Radio, then later on followed up by evening news reels on 7 & 9, then the Advertiser and its sister papers running a nationwide story. Unfortunately, this has now fallen from sight, we need to remain vocal about this if we are to coerce the state government into action!
There is a free family oriented activity being held at the St Kilda Mangroves on Wednesday the 27th of January at 10am. It is being held as a community led survey by Stephen Fricker and Activating Australians for Citizen Science. Come along, learn what's happening, take samples and see the evidence for yourself, then hang around and share your thoughts to be compiled together for some short video's pleading for the state government to act proactively for this precious habitat.

The cover image above shows the height difference of the leaking pond as compared to the much lower level Samphire, Saltmarsh and Mangrove habitats. It was captured at the end of November 2020 about a kilometre from the Boardwalk Visitor Information Centre. This die-off has now spread about three kilometres to the South of the Visitor Information Centre and can be seen along the edges of deeper water channels in that region.

Please, keep sharing and talking about this travesty with as many people and in as many ways as you can. We need to keep the matter current in peoples minds until appropriate action is taken to help the Mangroves.
