Hi all, I just wanted to reach out to let you know we’ve just passed 4,200 signatures on our petition! Thank you so much for your support! Will you help me to get more support by sharing this petition with ten other people? If enough of us sign we can’t be ignored! Here’s a link to share change.org/savethemangroves
While we are sharing links, here is the site for the campaign to Save St Kilda Mangroves savestkildamangroves.com
On the site are links to the various social feeds for the campaign, some quick updates, a few of your comments from this petition and some video's explaining some different aspects of the situation at St Kilda.
The image shared in this update was taken on the 30th of December 2020 and it shows in absolute clarity the horrific spread of death throughout the Mangroves. This is absolutely offensive and totally inexcusable that it is being allowed to continue to spread so far and for so long in an uncontrolled manner! This image was captured nearly two kilometres to the South from the visitor information centre at the boardwalk. It is an area that a few weeks ago had only minor areas being affected along the banks of the leaking pond.
Over this last week and a half there has been a meeting held by the Dept. of Mines & Energy with concerned NGO's and a directive to the mining company to remove the brine from the leaking pond. Please, have a read of the updates on the site for more about that, as it's not the end of this or even anywhere near that yet!
We need to ramp up the sharing of the petition and talking to people about this. The message needs to be so widely shared, talked about and known of that the state government acts quickly to minimise this ongoing tragedy.
Please, help raise the awareness of the need for immediate action!
Be well and stay safe everyone.
Kindest regards,
Alex
