Clovelly Park Station Access & New Information

Thank you for supporting this petition campaign. Extra information has been added on the main page and the order of some paragraphs rearranged. CLOVELLY PARK STATION ACCESS It has been a long time since I have visited Clovelly Park Station because historically, the ramp to the platform was steep and dangerous with a fence at the bottom to crash into. As recently as this year, fellow wheelchair users have told me that the platform was dangerous and assessed that I wouldn’t be able to use it. I am aware that it is very tricky boarding and alighting with the portable ramps at Clovelly Park Station because of the difference in level between platform and railcar deck which makes a steep and dangerous ramp. This weekend, I personally visited the site and was pleasantly surprised to see that the access ramp to the platform had been modified to include a rest spot in the middle and the fence at the bottom was gone. I don’t know when this was done. However, the platform is still not compliant with disability standards as it does not have the tactile tiles required for vision-impaired people and it is the wrong height for the new trains. I have also heard that there is limited room to manoeuvre larger motorised wheelchairs and gophers. I plan to ride the train to this station (that I have purposefully avoided due to the safety warnings from fellow travellers) this week to discover the boarding practicalities for myself. Even if the station platform was perfectly compliant with modern standards, the surrounding pathway access is not. Surrounding pathways and carparks are unsealed and have been described as ‘rubbly’ which I can verify with photos. One of the walking paths used by able-bodied local residents has been sealed off. The paved foothpaths and kerbing on nearby Bradley Grove (which is currently the main pedestrian access between Tonsley Station and Clovelly Park Station) are very uneven, have poor alignment with kerb ramps, hazardous edges and obstructions such as bus shelters and posts, making them very dangerous and impossible to use for many local residents. This is why we need to KEEP TONSLEY STATION! If you haven’t signed the petition yet, please consider doing it today! If you have signed, I thank you very, very much and hope you will encourage others to do the same. THANK YOU!
