Petição para que Sua Santidade, o Papa Leão XIV, proclame o dogma de Nossa Senhora Corredentora e Medianeira de Todas as Graças.

Beatíssimo Padre,

Santidade, Sucessor do Bem-aventurado Pedro, Vigário de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e Supremo Pastor da Igreja Universal

Os fiéis católicos abaixo assinados, filhos obedientes da Santa Igreja, prostram-se filialmente diante de Vossa Santidade e, movidos por profundo amor à Santíssima Virgem Maria e sincero zelo pela integridade e esplendor da fé católica, ousam apresentar esta humilde petição.

Antes de tudo, professamos com inteira submissão nossa fé na Igreja una, santa, católica e apostólica, fundada por Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo sobre o Apóstolo Pedro, e renovamos nossa total obediência ao Magistério vivo da Igreja, que Vossa Santidade exerce como Supremo Pontífice. Nada desejamos senão permanecer plenamente unidos à Sé Apostólica, cum Petro et sub Petro, recebendo com docilidade tudo aquilo que a Igreja ensina e definirá.

Movidos por esta fidelidade, suplicamos humildemente que Vossa Santidade se digne considerar a possibilidade de proclamar solenemente como dogma de fé a doutrina segundo a qual a Bem-aventurada Virgem Maria, Mãe de Deus e Mãe da Igreja, exerce por singular desígnio divino uma mediação universal das graças e participou de modo único e subordinado na obra redentora de Cristo, sendo, por isso, legitimamente chamada Medianeira de todas as graças e Corredentora.

Tal doutrina, longe de obscurecer a redenção única e perfeita realizada por Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, manifesta com maior clareza a superabundância da graça divina e a economia admirável da salvação. Pois Cristo é o único Redentor e Mediador no sentido próprio e absoluto (unus mediator Dei et hominum), enquanto a cooperação de Maria se dá de modo inteiramente dependente, subordinado e participado, segundo o beneplácito divino.

Desde os primeiros séculos da Igreja, os Padres e Doutores reconheceram nesta cooperação singular da Virgem Maria um mistério profundamente ligado à economia da salvação. Já Santo Irineu de Lião contemplava Maria como a Nova Eva, cuja obediência desatou o nó da desobediência de Eva. Santo Efrém da Síria, com ardor poético e teológico, exaltava a participação singular da Virgem na obra da redenção.

Na tradição medieval, São Bernardo de Claraval, São Boaventura e muitos outros mestres da vida espiritual e da teologia desenvolveram essa intuição, vendo em Maria aquela por quem Deus quis que as graças da redenção chegassem aos homens. Na época moderna, Santo Afonso Maria de Ligório, Doutor da Igreja e grande teólogo mariano, expôs com vigor a doutrina da mediação universal de Maria, mostrando como a tradição católica sempre reconheceu na Virgem Santíssima uma dispensadora das graças obtidas por Cristo.

Também grandes teólogos contribuíram para aprofundar essa doutrina, entre os quais se podem citar Francisco Suárez, o Cardeal Newman e, em tempos mais recentes, Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange, que analisaram com precisão teológica a participação subordinada de Maria na obra redentora.

Não menos significativo é o ensinamento do Magistério pontifício. Diversos Sumos Pontífices empregaram expressões que reconhecem a singular cooperação da Virgem na obra da redenção e sua mediação maternal na distribuição das graças. Entre eles podem ser lembrados Leão XIII, Pio X, Bento XV, Pio XI, Pio XII e João Paulo II, cujas palavras e ensinamentos contribuíram para preparar e iluminar a compreensão desta verdade no coração da Igreja.

Assim, ao longo dos séculos, pela voz dos Padres, Doutores, teólogos e Papas, consolidou-se no sensus fidei do povo cristão a convicção de que a Bem-aventurada Virgem Maria ocupa um lugar singular na economia da salvação: associada de modo único à obra redentora de seu Filho e medianeira maternal das graças que Ele conquistou para a humanidade.

Reconhecemos, Beatíssimo Padre, que a Igreja age sempre com prudência e sabedoria ao discernir o momento oportuno para uma definição dogmática. Contudo, cremos que uma proclamação solene desta verdade poderia trazer grande fruto espiritual para o povo cristão, iluminando mais plenamente o papel de Maria na história da salvação, fortalecendo a devoção mariana autêntica e conduzindo os fiéis com maior segurança a Cristo, único Redentor do mundo.

Pois quanto mais profundamente a Igreja contempla a missão da Virgem Santíssima, tanto mais resplandece a glória de seu Filho, já que toda a grandeza de Maria procede da graça de Deus e de sua união singular com o mistério da redenção.

Por isso, confiando na sabedoria pastoral de Vossa Santidade e na assistência do Espírito Santo prometida à Igreja, suplicamos filialmente que seja considerada a possibilidade de que a Sé Apostólica, no tempo que julgar oportuno e segundo o discernimento do Magistério supremo, declare e defina solenemente a Bem-aventurada Virgem Maria como Medianeira de todas as graças e Corredentora, esclarecendo com precisão teológica o sentido subordinado e participativo dessa cooperação na obra redentora de Cristo.

Apresentamos esta súplica com espírito de humildade e plena submissão à autoridade da Igreja, declarando desde já que aceitamos com docilidade tudo aquilo que Vossa Santidade e o Magistério da Igreja julgarem conveniente decidir sobre esta matéria.

Confiamos esta petição à intercessão da própria Virgem Maria, Mãe de Deus e Mãe da Igreja, para que ela conduza sempre o povo cristão a uma união mais profunda com seu Filho, nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

Implorando sobre Vossa Santidade a abundância das bênçãos divinas, permanecemos de Vossa Santidade humildes e obedientes filhos na fé.

A petition to His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, requesting that he proclaim the dogma of Our Lady as Co‑Redemptrix and Mediatrix of all graces.

Holiness, Successor of the Blessed Peter, Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Supreme Pastor of the Universal Church

The undersigned Catholic faithful, obedient children of the Holy Church, prostrate themselves filially before Your Holiness and, moved by profound love for the Most Holy Virgin Mary and sincere zeal for the integrity and splendor of the Catholic faith, dare to present this humble petition.

Before everything, we profess with entire submission our faith in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church, founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ upon the Apostle Peter, and we renew our total obedience to the living Magisterium of the Church, which Your Holiness exercises as Supreme Pontiff. We desire nothing other than to remain fully united to the Apostolic See, cum Petro et sub Petro, receiving with docility all that the Church teaches and will define.

Moved by this fidelity, we humbly beseech Your Holiness to graciously consider solemnly proclaiming as a dogma of faith the doctrine that the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church, by singular divine design, exercises a universal mediation of graces, participated in a unique and subordinate way in Christ's redemptive work, and is, therefore, rightly called Mediatrix of all graces and Co-Redemptrix.

Such doctrine, far from obscuring the unique and perfect redemption accomplished by Our Lord Jesus Christ, manifests with greater clarity the superabundance of divine grace and the admirable economy of salvation. For Christ is the only Redeemer and Mediator in the proper and absolute sense (unus mediator Dei et hominum), while Mary’s cooperation occurs in a wholly dependent, subordinated and participated manner, according to divine good pleasure.

From the first centuries of the Church, the Fathers and Doctors recognized in this singular cooperation of the Virgin Mary a mystery deeply linked to the economy of salvation. Already Saint Irenaeus of Lyon contemplated Mary as the New Eve, whose obedience untied the knot of Eve’s disobedience. Saint Ephrem of Syria, with poetic and theological ardor, exalted the Virgin’s singular participation in the work of redemption.

In the medieval tradition, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, Saint Bonaventure and many other masters of spiritual life and theology developed this intuition, seeing in Mary the one through whom God wished that the graces of redemption reach men. In the modern age, Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Doctor of the Church and great Marian theologian, exposed with vigor the doctrine of Mary’s universal mediation, showing how the Catholic tradition always recognized in the Most Holy Virgin a dispenser of the graces obtained by Christ.

Also great theologians contributed to deepening this doctrine, among whom may be cited Francisco Suárez, Cardinal Newman and, in more recent times, Réginald Garrigou‑Lagrange, who analyzed with theological precision Mary’s subordinated participation in the redemptive work.

No less significant is the teaching of the pontifical Magisterium. Several Supreme Pontiffs employed expressions that recognize the Virgin’s singular cooperation in the work of redemption and her maternal mediation in the distribution of graces. Among them may be recalled Leo XIII, Pius X, Benedict XV, Pius XI, Pius XII and John Paul II, whose words and teachings contributed to prepare and illuminate the understanding of this truth in the heart of the Church.

Thus, throughout the centuries, by the voice of the Fathers, Doctors, theologians and Popes, the conviction has been consolidated in the sensus fidei of the Christian people that the Blessed Virgin Mary occupies a singular place in the economy of salvation: uniquely associated with the redemptive work of her Son and maternal Mediatrix of the graces he won for humanity.

We acknowledge, Most Beatified Father, that the Church always acts with prudence and wisdom in discerning the opportune moment for a dogmatic definition. However, we believe that a solemn proclamation of this truth could bring great spiritual fruit to the Christian people, more fully illuminate Mary’s role in the history of salvation, strengthen authentic Marian devotion, and lead the faithful with greater security to Christ, the only Redeemer of the world.

For the more deeply the Church contemplates the mission of the Most Holy Virgin, the more the glory of her Son shines forth, since all the greatness of Mary proceeds from the grace of God and from her singular union with the mystery of redemption.

Therefore, trusting in the pastoral wisdom of Your Holiness and in the assistance of the Holy Spirit promised to the Church, we filially beseech that consideration be given to the possibility that the Apostolic See, at the time it deems opportune and according to the discernment of the Supreme Magisterium, may solemnly declare and define the Blessed Virgin Mary as Mediatrix of all graces and Co-Redemptrix, clarifying, with theological precision, the subordinated and participatory sense of this cooperation in the redemptive work of Christ.

We present this supplication in a spirit of humility and full submission to the authority of the Church, stating now that we accept with docility all that Your Holiness and the Magisterium of the Church shall deem proper to decide on this matter.

We entrust this petition to the intercession of the Virgin Mary herself, Mother of God and Mother of the Church, so that she may always lead the Christian people to a deeper union with her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Imploring God's abundant blessings upon Your Holiness, we remain Your Holiness' humble and obedient children in the faith.
