The decision record for approving The Cottesmore Hunt was uploaded on to Rutland County Council's website recently (see here - http://tinyurl.com/hlwdpfx); we thought we'd share our thoughts with you all on the document... Firstly, the statement that the Town Council rejected the Hunt's request to use Cutts Close in 2015 on health & safety grounds is astounding as A) we've repeatedly pointed out that there were clear concerns raised over animal abuse, cruelty & wildlife crime from the public & councillors alike & B) the actual video of the discussion is still online for everybody to see (http://tinyurl.com/odonv8a). It's unacceptable for the Council to pretend those concerns don't exist. We'll reiterate our previous update and point out that 'raising money for good causes' is not the main purpose of The Cottesmore Hunt (the clue is in the name), who, as one of the oldest fox hunts in the UK, have been slaughtering animals for sport for many decades, and they continue to do so today. If Rutland County Council wish to support charitable activity, they could simply do so without this barbarity & the subsequent controversy as the middle man. Finally, despite the record saying the decision is morally neutral, the Council seem keen to defend on the grounds of raising money for charity. Either morality is part of the decision or it isn't. If it is, why has the Council Cabinet unanimously agreed to run the risk of meting out the horrific injuries to foxes & badgers we previously described here (http://tinyurl.com/ztrytx3) and in the Thunderclap*... ? It's a genuine question, really; feel free to ask the Cabinet... as ever, be polite and forward any responses to leicesteranimalrightsgroup@gmail.com. Council Leader Terry King - tking@rutland.gov.uk Councillor Tony Mathias - tmathias@rutland.gov.uk Councillor Richard Clifton rclifton@rutland.gov.uk Councillor Richard Foster - rfoster@rutland.gov.uk Councillor Oliver Hemsley - ohemsley@rutland.gov.uk Councillor David Wilby - dwilby@rutland.gov.uk * - There's still time to sign up to the Thunderclap by the way, see the attached link!
