Hello! Yesterday our trial took place in Moscow. As you know, we were detained on May 11 in our attempt to deliver all your signatures to the General Prosecutor's Office and demand investigation into the persecution of gays in Chechnya. As a verdict, two of us received a fine of 10,000 rubles ($176), hearings for the other two people were postponed to June 21. The Court will be calling on the police officers who carried out the detention as witnesses. The verdicts will be appealed in the near future. The Chechen authorities, meanwhile, continue to behave arrogantly and insultingly, despite the panic that has grown due to the investigation. Besides the fact that they still try to convince everyone that there are no gays in the republic, the speaker of the Chechen parliament, Magomed Daudov, known as the "Lord", attacked human rights defenders, journalists and representatives of the LGBT community with insulting comments. In particular, he called homosexuality "a sign of the degeneration of any nation", and on accusations of being present during torture he replied: "I am ready for any investigative proceedings with you as a Russian citizen. But, as a Chechen, I just despise you!". At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he had agreed with Vladimir Putin to monitor the situation of LGBT people in Chechnya, and the Russian president had promised him to take measures aimed at investigating the actions of Chechen authorities. Do not let these promises remain empty words. Help spread the word about this petition even more so that Russia will not forget that the world is watching carefully.
