Today (9th October) the Rugby Football League confirmed that Castleford Tigers Full Back Zak Hardaker tested positive for a banned substance following a match on the 8th September.

This news comes just two weeks after Hardaker was selected in the 2017 Super League Dream Team. Once the appropriate investigation is made and on the assumption that the suspension remains in place, we, the undersigned, would like to see Hardaker stripped of this selection. Though this move would be mostly symbolic, we believe it is important to send a strong message that this type of behaviour is not acceptable in our sport. It is unfair on the other players who missed out on selection in the Dream Team and, more importantly, will mean something to children who might see Hardaker as a role model. Hardaker has previously brought the sport into distribute when, in 2014, he received a five match ban for homophobic abuse. It needs to be made clear that he is not a good representative of Rugby League.
