Petition Update: A Home is Not Just a Transaction; It is a Sacred Trust

When I started this petition just two days ago, I reminded myself of the proverb…Despise Not Small Beginnings.

We already have 10 signatures, and I am deeply grateful for every single one of you who has stood up to say: We see the cracks in the foundation, and we demand better.

This fight is not just about legislation or loopholes. It is about the soul of the agreement between a landlord and a tenant.

There was a time—and not so long ago—when renting a home was built on a covenant of trust. A landlord was a steward of a property, and a tenant was a caretaker of a life. A lease was not a weapon to be wielded; it was a handshake made formal. It meant: “I will provide you with a safe, warm sanctuary, and you will treat it with respect. We will meet each other with dignity.”

Somewhere along the way, the system forgot that housing is a human right. The Residential Tenancy Act became a maze of bureaucratic cracks that calculated individuals learned to exploit. Landlords began using “Mutual Agreements” not as peace treaties, but as traps. They learned that they could fabricate notices, leverage financial power, and leave innocent people—mothers, seniors, students—standing in the dark with their belongings packed, while they hid behind the paperwork.

It should not be this way.

A contract between two human beings should be honorable. It should be righteous. The law should not protect those who weaponize the system to break a person's spirit and destroy their sense of safety. …And Their HOME!! It should protect the vulnerable from those who treat a home merely as a revenue stream.

it’s the landlord’s house and physical property, but it’s the tenant’s home and Sanctuary  and the only place on the planet, where they are supposed to find safety and peace and refuge.

We are calling for a return to ethics. We are calling for a system that demands landlords understand the weight of what they are doing. We are calling for physical, in-person enforcement so that no one can lie about the truth of a move-out walk-through. We are calling for a law that voids any agreement signed under the shadow of coercion., etc and more…

To the 10 of you who have signed so far: thank you for believing in a better way. To those who will sign tomorrow, and the day after: thank you for standing for the vulnerable.

Let us restore the covenant. Let us make housing a sanctuary again.

Please keep sharing this petition. We will not be silenced.
