A nootropic is a substance which improves your brain and helps it function more effectively. It also protects against oxidative damage and stress and causes no side effects.

Prof David Nutt, a former chief drug adviser to the government says:

“It’s going to end brain research in this country,” said  “It will be disastrous. The ban on legal highs has been very destructive to research into Parkinson’s and into anti-smoking drugs."

The April 2016 psychoactive substances act is a blanket ban, so whilst nootropics aren't targeted they happen to fall under the ban meaning an end to brain research and waving good bye to possible cures for diseases like alzheimers.

Martin Powell head of campaigns at Transform Drug Policy Foundation was quoted as saying that restrictions on medical research were just one aspect of how the UK’s drug policies were causing a “rolling public health disaster”.

The law should focus on dangerous legal highs and NOT nootropics which may contain the answer to many mental conditions and cognitive decline. Ask Theresa May to make Nootropics exempt and help Professor Nutt fight for the right to test them for brain research!
